Launch Day

Every launch from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy, and where to stand to see it.

Launch Day: a rocket's exhaust trail over the Space Coast at night

Launch Day is a launch-day companion for Florida's Space Coast. It tells you what's launching next from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, warns you when the time changes, and shows you where to stand to see it.

I live in Brevard County, and I built the app I wanted on launch nights: one that gets the time right, tells me when a launch slips or scrubs and why, and knows the free spots along the river and the beach.

What it does

  • Next launch — a big countdown with the rocket, mission, pad, launch window, weather odds and a clear Go / Hold / Scrub status. Dates that aren't firm yet say so instead of counting down to a guess.
  • Alerts — tap Notify me on a launch, or follow every Florida launch, and choose what you hear about: a day before, an hour before, ten minutes before, time changes, scrubs, liftoff, and the sonic boom when a booster comes back to the Cape.
  • Where to watch — sixteen public viewing spots, from Space View Park and the Max Brewer Bridge in Titusville to Jetty Park and the Cocoa Beach Pier, each with the pads it sees, parking, restrooms, cost and when to arrive, sorted by distance from you with a rough drive time.
  • Pad compass — point your phone at the pad from wherever you're standing.
  • How to watch — a guide to launch day: what you'll see and hear from each distance, sonic booms, scrubs and windows, traffic, night launches and photo tips, with a source for every fact.
  • Weather — the National Weather Service forecast for Cape Canaveral, hour by hour through the window.

Coming soon

Launch Day is heading to the App Store first, then Google Play. Until then, the web version has the schedule, the spots and the guide.

Launch data comes from The Space Devs' Launch Library 2 and weather from the National Weather Service. Launch times change often; check the app before you head out.
